Vladimir Korbakov’s paintings

Vladimir Korbakov. Probably, there is no person in the Vologda region who would not know this name.
He was an academician, honored and people's artist, interesting creative personality. The Korbakov house in Vologda functions and not just functions but lives and is full of exhibitions, master classes, meetings, and discoveries.
Pictures of the famous artist can be also seen in the Belozersk Museum. How did they get to us?
Several sketches such as The Lenin Museum in Poronino, Krakow, The House in the White Danube Village were transferred from Moscow in the early 1990s. They are made with a pencil and felt-tip pen and represent sketches of old houses. Attention is drawn to the careful sketches of the features of the huts such as roofs, log cabins, bindings, porches. The master, creating a picture, makes many sketches. Something is waiting for its “right time”, and something enters the picture, such as The Northern Village work which is kept in the funds of our museum.
In 1993, a plein air was held in Belozersk. Real creative forces from Vologda, Veliky Ustyug and Moscow landed on the ancient land, on the lake shore: Vladimir Korbakov, Vladimir Latyntsev, Yury Voronov, Viktor Sedov, Valentin Zhdanov, D. Sadzhiev, Alexander Komendantov. Each artist donated one or more paintings to the museum after this trip. Vladimir Korbakov presented his The Church of Elijah the Prophet in Belozersk painting. The dark wooden church may not look as majestic as its stone counterparts. But it was the color that Vladimir emphasized the material – wood. How long has it endured! 300 years! Stormy winds from the lake, snowdrifts, torrential autumn rains and sun. Care and abandonment. The church withstood everything, the wood turned gray, darkened along with nature. In order to shade it even better, the artist showed the neighboring Church of the Intercession in bright colors. “Take care and be proud of your antiquities,” such an appeal sounds from Vladimir Korbakov’s painting.
The next painting by Vladimir Korbakov which our museum is proud of was created in the plein air in 2002. The artist worked alone during this trip. He lived on the shore of Lozsko-Azatskoye Lake and visited Belozersk almost every day. Being impressed by the history of Belozeriye, the master created a picture. M. Subbotina tells the story of its creation in the introduction to the catalog of the My Belozeriye paintings:
— I was thinking about ancient warriors, local ones. After all, they especially supported Dmitry in the Battle of Kulikovo. There is evidence of this. He took the book, opened it and read: “The princes of Belozersk, like the essence of strong warriors and great armor, and the horses are military equipped under them…” – This is from the legend of the Mamaev massacre. I wrote it, I wanted to name it according to those military times, but, having studied the centuries-old row, I learned: the earth wall, bridge, and even the stone cathedral did not exist at that time. He called the picture neutrally, but with respect for the town – The Legend of Belozersk.
