Realities of Viktor Ivanov

Viktor Ivanov was born in Voronezh in 1933. After graduating from school, he entered the Moscow Pedagogical Institute at the Faculty of Graphic Art, graduating in 1964. Two years later, the young artist took part in various exhibitions: city, republican, all-Union ones.

In Moscow, Viktor Ivanov worked in art workshops of the Ministry of Medium Machine Engineering where our fellow townman Petr Georgievsky was the Deputy Minister. The Ministry of Medium Machine Engineering was engaged in the construction of very important industrial facilities, including nuclear power plants. Being engaged in the construction of industrial buildings, the Ministry did not forget the infrastructure. The interiors of factories, clubs, clinics, park areas, alleys and many other things were created by artists from the workshops of the Ministry. Thanks to Petr Georgievsky, Viktor Ivanov met the chairman of the Belozersk Executive Committee, Nikolay Vershinin, in 1970-1980. The sculptor visited our town more than once and made several projects for it such as the monument to Petr Georgievsky (after his death), the memorial sign at the Belozersk entry, the Victory Park, the monument to designers and inventors the Shamarin brothers, interiors of the Rus hotel and the House of Culture. The artist was fascinated by our region, and he often came to work and relax with his family in the village of Ivanteevo. He met the inhabitants of the villages of Vatamanovo and Popovo. All these villages are located on the shores of the beautiful and picturesque Lozsko-Azatskoye Lake.

Viktor’s works focus on sculpture mainly. He created not only indoor sculptures but also large monumental works. His works can be seen in different cities of Russia. The material for the sculpture is metal, faience, gypsum, ceramics, concrete.

This collection of indoor sculptures came to us after the death of the artist in January 1998. Widow Antonina Ivanovna donated sculpture, graphics and books about artists and art, catalogs of paintings, many books and albums in foreign languages to our museum. Several sculptures were donated to the Art School.

Exhibitions of the artist's works were held in Belozersk in 1984 and 1998. Very often the sculptures are used in exhibitions in the art department of the museum.
